Which one and why?

We've seen a lot of forum members asking, "What muzzleloader is right for me?" It's a strange question actually because it would depend I think on the kind of laws your State subjects you to, the kind of hunting environment you face, and the kind of game you hunt.

But all else equal, we have read a lot of comments on this vary subject. Excellent posts I might add with very good reasons for their selection. So lets for the sake of arguement ask this question...

"Of all the muzzleloaders you have been told about or owned or presently own, and all the claims made about them. Which muzzleloader would you choose if you could only have one INLINE rifle in your muzzleloader collection? And why?"

To throw a kicker into this whole thing, lets put a price tag of $600.00 for the entire outfit. Your choice now, do you want a scope, sling, bipod, recol pad?

It might be interesting to see what brand is most popular, model, and scopes when the dollar figure is set. Also no waiting until you have more money saved, or I'd sell some of my current rifles and then use that money too..

A couple years ago I was asked this same question. A friend of mine had a house fire and lost everything. His insurance gave him a set amount of money to spend to "replace" his muzzleloaders. What he got surprised me, but I could see his point. What would you get?

Gollie! for me this would really be a tough decison... I do not think there is a muzzleloader out there, that I know of, that I would choose over anything that I have....

For me the decision would be made easily when it comes to choosing a inline or a sidehammer... An inline would go first... now the in my mind of all the inlines that own, it would really come down to the Omega, White or one of the Remingtons... then it would come down to White/Remington... then ultimately I am sure it would be Remington but which Remington - so probably the 26" SS/Black synthetic Remington 50... I am old fashioned and I really like the lines and it is an awful good shooter.

Really really tough question for me.... I hope it never never never comes down to this decision...

I forgot the important part.. Why?
1) I will shoot anything I stuff down the barrel in a sabot - not sure about conicals.
2) It is really a comfortable stock to shoulder... and get on the scope now!
3) It is a comfortable stock to carry around all day in your hand
4) The gun is well balance for me.
5) It is extremly reliable
6) and i guess the biggest reason - absolute confidence in the gun and what it can do.

I would go with the TC Omega in stainless/camo. That seems to be my favorite all time ML. If I was gonna spend that much I would make sure and get a TC. I would get a sling, upgrade the sights to some super nice ones and use it like that. I wouldn't put a scope on it. How about yourself? I'm interested to hear what you would take.

I would say that I'd have to pick the 700ML. My stepbrother has one and I had forgotten about how wonderful that things feels to shoulder until I picked it up the other day. FOR ME, I don't care about if it can shoot 1 in groups at 200 yards because I can't remember the last time I shot a deer at more than 60 yards.And fromeverything I've heard and read the accuracy is great on them as well. I knoww/his, 5shots touch at 50yrds which wouldbe all that I'd need.Ease of cleaning isn't that big of a deal to me either because all BP guns are nasty to be honest. I guessFEEL is my biggest selling point so I'd just find a (obviously used) well taken care of 700ML and put a nice scope on it. That's how I'd spend my insurance money in that scenario

It's pretty easy. If I were to lose all my muzzleloaders I would buy another thumbhole stainlesDISC Extreme 50 cal. You can get some good deals on them. The ramrod would be harder since they are no longer made, but I would get another 26" Powerrod. I'm sure there's places with them still in stock. Add a set of Warne bases and Maxima Rings and that would probably put me pretty close. The scope would have to wait. But I would get as much as I could for the $600. Eventually I'd put a scope on but I could make do with open sights for a year.

This is very easy for me, It would be a White .504 Ultra-mag
fitted with a lyman peep. A Nikon 1x scope with QRW rings.

I quess thats $600

Now as to why, I hunt elk in CO. and have to shoot conicals
and there is nothing out there that will shoot them as good as a White.
In Wi. we can only use 1x scopes and the qrw rings are removable as is the Lyman peep.

If I lost all my muzzleloaders, i would grieve the loss of my .50 cal T/C Hawken. It simply isn't replaceable. If I lost the two Apex, I might still opt for 2 of'em. If i were to go with T/C, is possible I might get one which doesn't like conicals, which would sadden me greatly.

I like my RMC Flintlock with 28" barrel and 1/28 twist. Great balance,sights and lock. Shoots 300 grain Hornady xtp's great. If I wanted an inline I would go with the Savage or Knight Disc Extreme.

Right nowI would say the TC Omega SS Camo Thumbhole @ $399 and a Luepold BP Scope2 x 7 @ $189.
