Default Sabots and different bullet diameters?

I think that I am getting this figured out pretty well now on the sabots use. Now the question that I need clarified is does a .452 sabot for example need a .451 bullet or can it fit a .452 diameter? I am noticing for example a .45 acp in a .451 dia. in a 240 grain hollow point. Would that work with a sabot?

As far as those crushed rib sabots go is that design to absorb some of the charge or lessen the recoil a little. Are these designed sort of like the plastic shotgun cup. I remember they sort of had a shock absorbing design to them. Would it be most common to use straight sabot or along with the ballistic bridge sub-base?

Where do I find those Gold Dot bullets? Is that the name that they are marketed under another name?

Mike

the .452 sabot is good for any .451-.452 projectile.
the .430 sabot is good for any .429-.430 projectile
the .458 sabot is good for any .457-.457 projectile

the crushed rib sabots do not need a sub base 99% of the time. The crushed rib or the HPH-24 are a thinner sabot. While they are the same as the other sabots in accepting bullets, being thinner, they can help with hard loading rifles....

I buy most my Speer Gold Dot and Hornady at Mid Way USA or MidSouth Shooters Supply...

Thanks Cayugad,
That carifies that, I just was not sure if that .452 sabotcould handle a .452 bullet. I thought it might possibly be a tight fit. Thanks for the Mid Way USA.

So in your knight does it like the thinner crushed rib or the regular sabots the best for feeding?

I like the prices on those bulk bullets, this is not going to be a boring hobby, I can see that already. Plenty of stuff to learn, kind of a trial and error thing.

Mike

Do those .45 ACP pistol bullets 185 grain jacketed hollow point fly OK with a sabot? The price for 500 is quite affordable on those.

If I shoot a .452 bullet in my Disc then I need a crushed rib sabot to make loading easier. The same if I shoot a .430 then a crushed rib works better. In my Black Diamond XR it will load any of them except the SST and the HPH-12's. I broke a short starter trying to get one of them down the barrel.

Thanks Dave,
Now I need to get a notebook out and scroll through yesterdays posts from my first qestion and make some notes on some of those bullets and sabots.

I sure appreciate all of the advice, saves me a bunch of money!

HD after re-reading you post, I think we are trying to get the same info. Heres a link to where they sell the different Sabots he is talking about. ITs free shipping when your order is over 20$. They have a list of a bunch of different ones. Im just not sure which one you or I need for what we are asking.

Duck,
Thanks for the link I have been on that site browsing around before. They have some decent prices there. The group here have me headed down the right track now after yesterday. I had been asking about bullets versus the pre-packagedtypes. I was looking over the catalogs today and I needed to get the sizes of the sabots clarified. It sounds like you are thinking of dabbling around with the bullet types also. Sabot Loader posted a link to a previous post on some Gold Dot bullets. They look like they are a nice bullet. There are a few different types of bullets listed in the postfrom yesterday. I am going to write down those bullets and sabots for future purchases.

I am really looking forward to trying some of this stuff out at the range. What gun are you shooting I will be using a Knight for my shooting. You will probably need to let the guy's here know that. That was one of the first things that they had asked me. Let me know what you end up figuring out with those sabot/bullet combos. Good luck with the experimentation. I figure that once I get a bullet/sabot load figured out that I am going to order in a larger quantity.

Mike
