Default Help-- T/C Omega or A/H 420

Hi all, new to this forum/site.
Looks like a good place to seek Info/opinions on which ML to choose.
I currently have a CVA optima and am looking to add another, but having a hard time deciding which.
My optima shoots allright but I'm not very happy w/ the trigger(hard). Can anybody tell me how the Omegas' trigger is?
I've read good reviews about the Austin & Halleck but I'm a little leary about buying one of their "going out of business" rifles. They sure are pretty though!
With their discounted prices,it gives me a couple of options in my price range(cheap).
I just recieved a Cabelas sale catelog with the black/blue Omega priced at $229.00.
Any opinions, advice or constructive comments are appreciated ,thanks
-Gary
Whoops,1st post and I'm allready editing.Cabelas has the Remington listed at $229.00-not the Omega.
But i did see the Z5 locally for $249.00-Gary

Unless you want to roll the dice on any quality control issues that may come with a new A&H 420 -- or issues surrounding parts availability a few years from now, then I would think the Omega would be the smarter choice. You can get the stainless, laminated wood Omega for $321 buying it online.

Own and shoot both of them - I really like both of them also - but If I were asked which one would I save I would say the Omega.

The A&H has an adjustable Bold Trigger - The Omega comes preset no adjustment, but in my Omega it is really fine for hunting - a little stiff for target shooting but it really is adequate.

The Omega has a small problem if you happen to be one of those that wears gloves during the hunting season. The trigger guard is to small to get a gloved finger into... Another that does bother me a bit - no trigger safety. To shoot you must pull the hammer back - that takes a little time -I would much prefer a trigger safety.

I'm brand new here but thought I'd chime in on the Omega questions. I just purchased an Omega Z5 last week. I've been completely impressed with the gun thus far and can't say enough about what a value it is. Anyway it shoots minute of angle with 100gr of 777 and a 250gr T/C Shockwave. Oh yea.....and the trigger on mine is outstanding. It breaks clean like a glass rod at 4.5lbs according to my digital guage.

grayland... simply because A&H went under, I would have to vote for the Omega. If you needed customer service, Thompson Center will be there for years to come ready to handle any problem. A&H will not be there to help, or fix a problem. There was some rummor that the A&H rifles towards the end were not made with as much care as those earlier produced. I can not confirm that as I do not own a A&H.

Just from a buyer beware, I'd go with a Thompson Center...

Gray I love my hardwood stainless omega it fits perfect. Now about that black stock. Just a thought. While your sitting on your favorite watch and you have been there for 7 hours. Would you like to admire your wood stock omega against that tree or that piece of plastic. Just a thought. Enjoy.

I love real wood myself but finding a Z5 for $109 was something I could not pass up. I put the sights from my Encore on it and made the black stock look a little cooler.

I think Cayugad brings up a real valid point here... both of my A&H's were the older ones - not the one's produced in Provo and there were changes made in Provo.

For me the question would be do I even consider buying a gun there is no possability of gettin parts and service on much less comparing it to a life time warrenty that in my experance has been backed 100%. Lee

Hey,thanks for all the feedback.
Sounds like there is a general consensus, and it's pretty much what I figured.I guess I just needed to hear it from others.
I've kinda had my eye on a A&H for a while now and seeing their going outta business prices....well you know. They sure are pleasing to look at!
Some very good points where made and I think I'll bide my time and look for a "good deal" on a Omega w/laminate stock.

Are you able to buy aftermarket stocks for the Omega?
If they sell after market stocks I could scoop up a bargain priced Z5, and then purchase a laminate stock later.

Do they factory set their triggers to a certain spec?
Did you any of you guys have have them check the trigger pull at your place of purchase.
When I got my Optima and didn't like the trigger pull,I brought it back to Gander(unfired) and had them exchange it for another one.I was amazed at the differences between one gun and another. The guy behind the counter rolled his eyes at first, but after checking a couple and seeing the differences,he became more helpful. The one I ended up with was just under 6 lbs I believe.
Thanks agin for all the feedback.
-Gary
