Default .54 Cal conical suggestions

After hyming and hawing about spending $350 for a new Omega, I ended up buying http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_162_193&products_id= 3451. I am a flint lock smoothbore shooter at heart and was going to buy an inline this year and bought another flinter. Don't ask me why... it's just the way things happen sometimes. I've always wanted a Jaeger from my rendevous days, and know I have one that I can hunt with conicals with. This one is rifled with a 1 in 24" twist, which I figured will shoot conicals pretty damn good. I have been paying attention to what everyone is suggesting for the .50 cals. but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good conical or sabot for a .54. i figure ill be shooting 80-100 grains and would like open sight shots up to 100 yards. I also like to knock the snot out of deer with my guns so I want something that has 100 yard range and hits hard.

with that twist of 1:24, I'd look at the maxiball and the No Excuse Conicals. Whether they will work is a guess of course since I never shot a rifle like you described... Good luck with the rifle. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Try asking dixie gun works if they sell bore size conicals for Jaeger you purchased. I noticed a while backthat they keep cast conicals in various sizes. I am veryinterested in your experiences with the Jaeger and conicals and hope you post your experience in the forum. Good luck! Also, you may try pm'ing eldeguello, he owns a .73 Jaeger (in slow twist I think) Or is it sabinajiles?.But I figure they either have experience or know others with experience regarding conicals and the 1:24 twist.

I've had great results using Great Plains conicals. They make a 425 gr. for the .54 caliber.
