Default 100 Grains VS. 150 Grains.

I'm shooting a .50cal Traditions evolution. I'm shooting 100grains of 50/50 pyrodex pellets and a 295grain HP Powerbelt sabot. And I can shoot out to 100yds easily. But I'm wondering if for hunting I should up my load to 150grains of pyrodex. I don't plan on shooting farther then 100yds but I'm not sure if my current load has enough power to take down a mature whitetail. If you could give me any kind of info including personal preferance that would be great.

In the swamps I shoot up to 200 yards, so I shoot 150gr. But believe me, a 90gr load of goex has more than plenty power to to go thru two whitetail under the right circumstances. Were you joking with "I'm not sure if my current load has enough power to take down a mature whitetail". I figured you was.

I should have said beyond 100yds. When I said that. I have shot whitetails at 80 to 100yds with my ML and dropped them in there tracks. So what I really meant is out to how many yds do people think my current load is good for.

Well, I for one do not like taking shots with your load past 125 yards. After that you have to hold over alot. And even though you load maybe a 2MOA load, you usually will not see4" groupsat 200yards due to velocity variances taking over. I get a good 2MOA out of my 2000fps 250gr load, but get like 6" groups at 200 with a 6-8" drop.

I shoot 150 pyro (not 777) pellets of of my TC thunderhawk behind a 250 gr traditions APB (last year they were called T-Shock XLR's) runs 2070 fps and makes one ragged hole at 100, had a bang/flop on a buck at a lazered 208 yds last year. the 2nd substenstion below the crosshair on the burris BP reticle is almost dead on at 230 yds.

All I shoot is 90 grains of loose Goex with a 245 grain Powerbelt. I have no idea what range it has to be effective on deer as deer are not cooperating. A lot of a projectile's killing ability is shot placement. If you can place the shot I would go ahead and try.

With PB's especally the lighter ones some of use have had trouble with them fragmenting like a varmit bullet when using 150 gr. I blew a coyote almost in half with a 245 HP PB but could not find any exit hole. Lee
