Default White Mountain Carbine Loads

I am new to your forum and would like to ask a question. I have a WMC in 50 cal. with a 1:20 twist barrel. I have been trying to find a load for it and have been having little success. I have tried pr's extreme elite in 260 and 300 grain with a variety of loads and powders. i have tried GP bullets and Maxis also with a variety of powders and loads and have only come up with 4 inch groups at 50 yds. Any info or suggestions would really help.

Welcome to the forum. You fail to mention how hard you're pushing all of this and whether you were swabbing between shots.

Personally I do not have a rifle with that twist. If I did I would be trying different conicals like Maxiball, Powerbelts, but I see you tried some Great Plains conicals. I really do not know what to tell you, only what I would try and it looks like you're on that track. Perhaps some powder charge changes would make a difference.

I was trying 80 to 100 grains with goex ffg, 777 ffg, RS, 777fffg, and APP ffg. Yes I was swabbing between shots and I did try without swabbing.

I have the same rifle. Mine is about 10 years old. I have had lots of good luck with 70 grains of Pyrodex RS and a heavy conical. I really liked TC Maxi in 470 grain but they stopped making it,,, or at least I can't find anyone selling it anymore. I use a 350 grain Maxi now and it shoots real nice tight groups I remember when I first bought the rifle I had tried 80 grains or more of the Pyrodex RS. I couldn't get tight groups no matter what bullet I used. So I used less powder and my groups were awsome and they still are even with my ageing eyes and open sights.

All of them different powders and you could not get it to shoot? Wow . I would knock the load down to 70 grains and start there. See if that makes a difference. Normally they are really good shooting rifles from all the posts I have read on them.
