Default Great News!!!

Good news! I am going to Texas next October for deer. I can shoot up to 5 deer. I know that seems like a lot but the deer are very small. I get to go with grandpa and dad. My dad will probably take his bow and my grandpa will take a centerfire. I know I will take my muzzleloader. I have really been wanting a flinter but if I get one it will be a 58cal for elk. There would not be much use in getting one since I would take my 54 to Texas. I am really excited. I just wish i could go with a flinter. Currently I have a Renegade 54cal percussion. That will do. I plan on using the roundball. This is the same ranch I went a couple years ago and shot 3 deer with a 243.

sounds like fun..i also use my flintlock for all seasons here in pa..

we just got done with bear season..hunters got 120 bear in our county here..monday is buck season for me, i dont shoot doe anymore because of the lack of doe..

i swear i am only one in woods with a flintlock anymore other than late season..hunters stopped me out bear hunting and were laughing at flintlock for bear..

at range, they look and laugh at my flintlock..they stop laughing when i set the target at 50 yds, open sights and almost put the bullet in same hole..i looked at their scoped 30-06 ,308,30-30 and their groups were bigger than mine and they had scopes..

sharpshooter: sounds like a great opportunity; good luck and bring us back some pictures - - we like pictures!

sproulman: from what I recall from reading your posts in the past, I doubt that the others laughing at you bothered you at all. I suspect that just as you outshot them at the range, you'll outhunt them in the field. Be proud of what you do well.

thanks for nice words..its harder hunting now than ever before..you just dont have deer we did..when i gotinto my 50s i could not believe how sore you get hunting..i used to sit all day, now,i get cramps etc..

as for laughing, i could not believe how bad some of them shot with 3x9 power scope on sandbags at 50 yds..or how good i shot with that flintlock .50 cal hawkins open sights..i touched holes at 50 yds with 60 grs of 2f and .490 rb..very good shooting..that v-peep sight is awesome..

i think info i got from you and others here has made me a much better shot and i feel a lot better too shooting rb..i gave up on rb because i could not get them to group well..i use POWERBELT 295 for hunting now..

now they are shooting unreal groups..i saw group of hunters in bear season..22 of them were driving for bear..they had radios and were talking constantly as they drove for bear..you could hear radios from 200 yds away..hey barney, you are getting too far out in front of me, ok jake..hey bob, there goes a deer,he is coming your way..ok, i see her,hey carl, move closer to me, yo ho..

can you believe what hunters are turning into now..RADIOS on loud..this is illegalbut they are using radios to hunt..its no wonder people are giving up hunting when you see the the things you do..

the funniest thing is like rooster cogburn said on TRUE GRIT..he said, that texan uses to much GUN..i see 12 year old kids with 7mm rem mag hunting deer..the rifle is longer than kid,oh my...

anyhow,thanks..
