Default Various Hornady 240 Grain XTP Bullets

The situation of 240 grain XTP bullets is interesting. In some case the deer dies as if struck by a bolt from above. In other cases the deer appears not to be hit. idid some online research. We may betalking aboutdifferent 240 grain XTP bullets here.

There are at least two 240 grain Hornady XTP bullets currently loaded into sabots by Hornady.

1. The .44 caliber XTP
2. The .45 caliber XTP Magnum
3.i seem to remember a .44, 240 grain XTP Magnum loaded into sabots by someone-could be wrong on this.

Hornady loads the 300 following grain XTP bullets in sabots:

1..44 caliber XTP
2..45 caliber XTP Magnum
There is also a .45 caliber XTP bullet. It is not currently loaded into sabots by Hornady. It may be loaded by someone else.

Go to Hornady.com. There are different design specs for each bullet.

Have a goodday and God Bless. Get that deer.

To throw another twist into all of this.. I've shot hundreds of both the .430 and the .452 out of different inline rifles. And not all rifles like the two bullets. In my Knight Rifles, they tend to like the .430 diameter while the Thompson Center and CVA like the .452 diameter. Also the 200, 240, 250, & 300 grain XTP's all seem to have excellent down range energy and expand real well....

So with many, its a matter of trial and error until you find the right projectile and the right powder charge.

I used to shoot the .44 in 300 gr out of my Rem 700ml. Talk about knocking the snot out a dear.

My encore shoots the .45 cal in 240 gr. It too is a slobber knocker (but that might be due to the 3-50gr pellets)

Alsagr,

Forget buying the pre-made sabot loads that Hornady puts out, you are paying a premium for those. I suggest asking you local gunshop (not Walmart) to order you a box of what even XTP round you want for reloading purposes (about $18 per box of 100 for 45cal 240gr) and a bulk bag of mag sabots. Lots cheaper.

HCTurkeyHunteris right, that's how I buy mine. A lot cheaper that way. $0.23 per round that way vs. $0.57 w/prepackaged stuff where I'm at. But now you've got me wondering which 300g .452 I shoot now...

I get my bullets from these places cheaper than I can locally.
Youall left out one of my favoeite XTP the 230 in my System one 50cal barrel it holds 1 inch using 150 gr RS [ about 2200 fps]and it seems to litterally stiffen a deer as long as you hit just above the heart , no blood trail need when they go down on the spot. Lee

I buy my xtps and sabots in bulk as well. Inmy rem 700and knight I load the 240gr .44calxtp with green mmp sabot (.430). In the savage I run the 250 gr .45 cal xtpwith black mmp sabot (.452). I buy the hornadybulk ammo local andorder my sabots direct from MMP.
