Default Which powder

For a .50 cal tc or cva inline I was thinking of starting with either 777 or Jim Shockeys gold what do I get ffg or fffg? I was going to buy one and need a start also looking at shockwaves, sst's or simular bullet. Thanks I am new and need a starting point.

I've never shot Shockey Gold, but have shot APP 3f and Clean Shot 2f. Both of them did good jobs with sabots. I personally would go with the 3f is your sure you want to use American Pioneer Powder/a.k.a. Shocky Gold. The 2f grade is very course while the 3f is much easier to deal with...

Good luck.

I prefer Pyrodex for brealing a gun in because it seems to work well in more guns than any thing except black which is hard for some people to get.I would get an assortment of sabots of different thickness both MMP and Harvestor and for starting out some XTP or Speer bullets in a wide range of weight say 240 to 300gr .I personally use PRB with polishing compound rubed into the patch for the first 30 to 50 shots then try the cotten ball test and see if any fibers stick in the barrel if not you are ready to try sabots.Once you have loads that meet your standards then try the expensive bullets under about 125 yds they don't make much difference anyway.Lee
