Default My Western OK Buck

Got this guy yesterday evening promptly at 5:38 p.m. Missed him with a Barnett 400 crossbow on Tuesay last week at about 40 yards when he hunched almost to the ground at the shot.

Yesterday was the second day of deer gun season on Ft.Sill. Some areas of Ft. Sill are restricted to B/P or Shotguns. I was hunting in one of these areas with my .50 Encore. Was in a tree with all its green leaves in a stand about 15 feet off the ground. This buckcame into the plot and did not stop, I gave a long BAAAAAAH,he stopped, bent his neck around and and looked directly at me in the treestand. The range isabout 160 yards. The shot broke both forelegs atthe lower shoulder. Took awhile to get out of the treestand and get after him. Shot him again behind the shoulder at about 40 yards and he expired.

Not bad for a standing shot from a tree stand, offhand, ifi do say so myself.

The load:
90 grains of Jim Shockey's Gold, 250 grain SST and Winchester shotgun primers.

Measurements:
Point to point: 16 inches.
Inside spread: 19 inches.
Beam lentgh: 20 inches.

Folks at Ft. Sill say this is the nicest rack taken this year.i am estatic.

You should be!! That's a beautiful buck you have there. And a heck of an off hand shot to boot. Congratulations on a real nice buck.

That's a beautifully even buck! I like those symmetrical ones. Congrats and yeah that's a tough shot so great job!

Thanks, everyone. Still cannotbelieve thati got him: It wasalucky Hail Mary shot. Afriend had a stand near this one for years, until agrass fire burned the tree down. He had never seen a good buck from that stand. My wife andi built a new standin the edge of the field in a huge white oak tree. Lots of folks use this stand. The field is surrounded on three sides by a large oak forest. Someone killed a deer fromthat standvery early in B/P season.i killed a doe from iton 23 October.

The buck was in rut maybe this made him somewhat vulnerable.
