Default Max powder charges APP, 777

I was wondering if anybody could let me know what the max charge of APP was as comparable to 150 grs of pyrodex. Also for 777.

2f APP is supposed to be the same as Black Powder or Pyrodex for strength. So the max charge should be the same as those two powders. Remember ... all rifles are not made alike. While some allow 120 grains of loose powder as a max charge others require 100 grains. Be sure to know your rifle. Also while some people shoot three 50 grain pellets in their rifles, look on a Hodgdon's site sometime and just look at what they consider the max load using pellets. It might surprise you.

But if your rifle says, 100 grains of loose black powder or Pyrodex is allowed. The same should hold true for APP 2f. When shooting 3f, they suggest cutting your loads back as much as 15%.

Don't buy the APP sticks! Lots of compalints on those. If using loose powder, it creates more pressures than pellets. I would not exceed 120 gr. loose in a well made ML that may allow it - for sure not in a entry-level ML. Those models should only see 100 grains (in my opinion). For instance -- Traditions allows 150 grains of loose - but that's crazy & potentially dangerous.

All I can say is if you want to roll that safety gambling dice -- go ahead. I own three Traditions& I never exceed 100 grains. But I will shoot 120 in my better made T/C Omega. It (manual)allows 150 loosewith a 400 grain bullet - but I would never go there. Right now, I use 80 gr. with a 435 bullet -- out to 150 yards.

APP runs real close to Pyrodex on the strain gage right up to 150 grs.
777 on the other hand is stronger it peaks closer to the breach and runs 20 to 25 percent higher on the strain gage,it also gives quite a bit more velocity. I personally have limited my 777 loads to 110gr in my mag rifles and 85 in the non-mags. Lee
