Default FLINT CONVERTION

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT MAKERS LOCK WOULD BE THE MATCH TO A THOMPSON CENTER PERCUSSION LOCK, AS FAR AS INLET ETC.. I WANT TO COVERT A TC RENEGADE TO A FLINTLOCK, ONLY HITCH IS IT'S A LEFT HANDED RIFLE, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SWITCH IT WITHOUT ALTERING SO IT CAN BE CHANGED BACK WITHOUT HARM. I KNOW, BUT SMARTER PEOPLE HAVE DONE DUMBER THINGS.. OR IS IT DUMBER PEOPLE HAVE DONE SMARTER THINGS, ANYWAY YOUR HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
I 'M LOOKING TO FILL A NICHE, I'VE GOTAN ENCORE, A WHITE MOUNTIAN CARBINE AND LOOKING TO DO A LH FLINT, I HOPED IT COULD BE AS EASY AS A LH LOCK AND GM RE-BARREL? THANKS!

here a place to start looking I know the L@Rlock has to be inletted deeper in t.c stocks reason they use a different mainspring: but the above web: site should have what you need.

I have been thinking about doing the same thing. How hard is it to change the lock? Then I would just need a new barrel. (I am planning to get one anyways).

First thing I'd do is contact Fox Ridge Outfitters, which is the T/C custom shop, and see if they can furnish a LH lock. Then contact GM, and see if there's a drop-in LH flintlock barrel for it.There may be, if you're lucky. But, yu will most likely have to get a breeched barrel and install the touch-hole liner, barrel key loops, and ramrod thimbles yourself.

Changing locks is simple - finding a replacement LH flintlock may be difficult!

What a pita.

I have a pedersoli rifle that was a flint and i converted it to a cap simply by buying the cap lock and changing it out. Stillhave the same barrel.

If your not changing it from a righty to a lefty or vice versa, why the need for a new barrel? And why not just contact TC?

There is a BP gunsmith in Morgantown, WV that does that type of work. His name is Marvin Wottring. He is a first class smith, and human being. I believe you would better serve yourself if you just ordered a Lyman left handed rifle. I know it would cost a lot less. Tom.

THANKS FOR THE IMPUT I APPRECIATE THE HELP. I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THE LYMAN AS AN ADDITION, BUT HAVE TIME TESTED FAITH IN T/C PRODUCTS, GRANTED LYMAN MUST BE DOING IT RIGHT, I'VE READ HAWKS REVIEW ON HIS EXPERIENCE WITH THE LH FLINT AND HE SPOKE WITH RESPECT TO IT'S PERFORMANCE, I CAN'T SAY I'VE EVER SPOKE WITH ANYONE THAT HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIER STUFF BUT I DON'T KNOW ANYONEWITH FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE EITHER..

I have one in left handed flint-50 cal. I believe it is every bit the rifle that the TC is. And that is saying alot. I also believe the Lyman is available with more options. I have the one with the faster twist, and I shoot conicals in mine. I also have the Lyman peep sight on mine, it does not require any D&T. The Lyman also costs alot less. Tom.
