Looks like the swabbing is a good thing for you... you must live where I do. Its in the 30's, windy and colder then the devil outside. I brought in some more firewood and about froze. I tried to talk myself into shooting this afternoon and decided to do other things..

Is that rifle scoped? The other day I was shooting my Wolverine (scoped) with 80 grains of Goex 2f and the same .44 cal XTP and got some outstanding results shooting. That's a good bullet there. I buy them in bulk, and load them in a Harvester Crushed Rib sabot...

Really nothing interesting there.Actually it's a good examplethat folks not using the cleanest powdersshould be swabbing no less than every other shot.

Cayugad, I didn't know it was that cold till I came back in and looked at the weather station. At least the snow was just flurries here.
I like that 240gr. HP XtP too. Did an awsome job on the mouse that had built a nest in the back stop

What I found intresting was how good the 80 grain charge grouped the first two shots and how far the second two spread out. Del told me not to push those green MMP sabots very hard and maybe why the 90 gr. charge didn't group well.

I was told the same thing.. not to push them too hard. With 80 grains their accuracy is excellent. Another person I talk to with a Bighorn shoots the same thing, 80 grains and that bullet. He said it just wipes the floor on a deer with that load. This year he went to a 300 grain XTP and shot a doe. He showed me the bullet after it went almost all the way through her length ways. Hard to argue, controlled expansion, and massive wounds.

if you are shooting that big of pattern at 50 yards, i'd really hate to see what its like at 100. I'd start swapping powder and bullets and find a better combo.

Try the 45 Cal. XTPs.TMZs or SSTs in either a MMP short black sabot or a Harvester short black sabot. These sabots will stand up to smokeless loads above 2500FPS you can push all you want with BP and subs and not blow one ofthese. I have a Knight Master Hunter 120gr PyrodexP, MMP short black,45cal 250gr XTP 1..250" 3 shot group at 150yds.
