Default Max load of APP 3F

I am currently shooting 100gr of APP 3F out of my omega, can someone tell me what the max powder charge for this powder would safely be?

Thanks

Jeremie

Welcome to the forum.

Since APP measures like Goex or Pyrodex. And you're shooting an Omega. I think I would set the max at 120 grains of loose 3f. I shot that out of my Knight Disc. Then start your load at 90 grains and work for accuracy and if 100 grains is most accurate, then that's the load you should use.

At the web site they do not even mention the max load of 3f. They have a 240 grain with 120 grains of 2f running 1900 fps. I would have thought that it would have produced more then that. Maybe the 3f will work for you. I did not have as good a luck with it as I thought I would...

My current setup is 100gr's of APP 3F underneath a 250gr Barnes MZ. At 50yds this combo is giving me pretty much a 1 hole, 3 shot group consistantly. I'm going to try to stretch her out to around 150yds and was just wondering what a safe max powder charge for the 3F would be.

Thanks,

Jeremie

Accuracy is more important than more powder for long range, you should be getting between 1850 and 1900 if your fit is close to mine;I sight in for 2 inches high at 100yd which is going to be about 2 inches low at 150yds and I hold about 14 inches high to ring our gong at 235yds. Lee

I've been loading 110gr APP in a Knight .45 under a PR 250gr Spitzer with excellant results.I had it up to 120gr for couple yrs but backed down to 110.
110 FFF is roughly equal to 125gr of FF APP.

110gr seems to work very well with the 245gr PR with little or no indication of unburned powder.Thats the key - burn it all !!
