Default Hard Case or Bag

Greetings all. This is not necessarily an m/l question. However I trust the posters in here and so will ask my question in his forum.

I will be going centerfire hunting in a couple of weeks. After getting the rifle sighted in, I do not want the scope reticle to get knocked out of alignment when it and the rest of my gear gets transported in the back of the truck.

Normally I transport my rifles in the padded "bags." But it seems that the bags are not very good shock aborbers. And before too long, bouncing around in the back of the truck the scope reticle will get knocked out of its settings. Not by much, but enough.

Would a foam filled hard case be a better means of transporting the rifle so the scopedon't get bounced/jarred too much?

The scopesI use are a Burris Full Field II and a Leupold VX-I

Thanks all for your comments,

~Robert

Yes... the plastic, hard-shell black ones work great. Make sure it willsupport the height & length you need to close it properly - with scope attached. Take a measurement at home - then take the ruler along to the store.

Absolutely it will work, I've got ding marks on my hard case thatwould make you cringe. But my guns and scopes are always safe and shoot right on with no problems. I got my hard shell case from Bass Pro right after the season ended for half price. It was an airline approved silver case with a combination lock. If it wasn't for the price I would have never gotten it. The shell needs to be durable and the inside should have a thick layer of foam to cushion the gun. Just think "Would I sleep on that comfortably" and you'll find the right one.

Thanks Guys!

That seemed like the right answer to me as well. What had me wondering was: if the scope can take the recoil of a rifle, a little bouncing in a padded bag shouldn't be a problem...

Hard cases are fine just be careful that you don't expose them to sun in the back of a car/truck,condensation can form and rust very quickly.
I had to get a perrazi trap gun reblued because of this.
