Default Anyone else have this problem?

Went out to sight in my brand new Kodiak Mag 50.cal the other day. Shot once (off a lead sled...rock steady) and hit nothing. Walked up and shot from about 15 yards and hit about 4 feet low. I adjusted my scope all the way (cant be moved up anymore) up and im still hitting 3 inches low at 15 yards! It has luepold mounts and a luepold scope. Everythings tight but it does look like the scope is leaning a little down. Has anyone else had this problem. Please tell me i dont have to shim it.

One thing you can try is change the mounts around. Sometimes that will change the whole thing around. What I mean is the ring on the front of the scope remove and put that to the rear of the scope and the other way.. Check the rings for burrs. Be sure the bases are the right ones and solid. And if all else fails, you might have to shim the scope.

Some times changing the mounts help and some times it don't seem to make a difference...

If this was professionally mounted by a gunsmith, they should have noticed that when they bore sighted it...

I had problems with Leupold quick release base and rings with a Vari-X II scope on my original T/CEncore.Tried everything, kept shooting like 2 feet low. Sent the scope back to Leupold to have them check it, they said it was fine. Tried it on the Encore again, so problem. Put the scope on another gun, it worked fine! I gave up on having a scope on my muzzleloader that season. Mounted a Nikon Monarch on it the following year, no problems. About 2 years later I read on Modern Muzzleloader that for some reason on certain muzzleloaders Leupold scopes need to be SHIMMED to get the height they need!!!!!
I don't know what else to tell you. You can either switch rings or mounts or try another scope. A guy at work just told me about the same problem a friend of his is having. (Not sure of the gun type).
Believe me, I was EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED with this whole ordeal. I know what you are going through. Leupold makes great products, I prefer their mounts over others. I have made the switch to Nikon scopes, this situation was one reason why.
You could try calling Leupold, They may send you the necessary shim.
Good Luck. Hope you get it sighted in.

Ha thats funny. Not like haha funny for you but haha funny because my brother in law had the same problem with his .270. Leupold scope and mounting hardware and he adjusted it all the way to the left and it wasnt enuff. $60 later and having a gunsmith fix the problem, its finally hitting right.

Everyone who has used scopes much has had similar problems. Before shimming, you can try reversing the scope mount rings, swapping the front & rear rings, if your mount will permit this. I have seen mounts where swapping the rings solved the problem.

When installing a new scope, it is always best to use an optical collimator to get thescopeadjusted to at least be able to hit the target paper before firing the first shot.In addition, one is well advised to shoot the first couple of shots at no more than 25 yards, and get the scope adjusted at that distance first before moving back to 50 then 100 yards.

I have had to use a shim or two under the rear of a scope tube a couple of times to get it pointing down a little more in relation to the bore in order to get enough elevation after running out of internal adjustment. My gun was shooting low, just like yours, but I was using a mount in which the front and rear rings were NOT interchangeable (Redfield Jr. type). I cut my shims out of an aluminum beer can with a pair of scissors, and you couldn't even tell they were there unless you were specifically looking for them. And there is nothing weak about using shims in your mount ring.......

Make sure you have the correct mounts... they do have different mounts for the standard CVA and CVA Kodiak rifles. This would be the first thing I check before attempting to shim it. If you do have the correct ones do you by chance have the front and rear mounts mixed up? Just some ideas.

I'm real glad to hear that. Sometimes the simple fix is the right one.. Now you have no excuses for missing I guess..
