Default Help with selection of Muzzleloader

[&:]I recently won a Savage 7mm Mag Rifle/scope at a local gun bash. I am from PA and doubt I will ever get to travel west, or hunt anything local such as Elk. I am looking to trade it in for a nice inline muzzleloader. I am looking for suggestions on what model to go with. The current Savage rifle I won lists for $425. I am new to muzzleloaders, but am considering something in the 50 cal. that allows for the use of power pellots or powder. It's not necessary that I start with a model with a scope included, but a model that will allow me to upgrade later. I understand certain models will shot accuratey to 200 yds, however I think 100yds is fine. I have looked at a few models by CVA and Remington, and Knight. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, T/Cs shoot the most consistently at 200 yards & offer the best warranty. A T/C Omega would be a smart choice. Good luck selling that Savage for close to retail value. Wal*Mart sells them dirt-cheap.

Yeh if you have a brand new 7mm trade you should be able to get into a T/C Omega or other fine made in America arms.

If you want to try traditional rifles first I think you will be happy but most m/l shooters just want the closest to there center fire guns for hunting and guns like the Omega fill that bill.

I would say go to a bunch of gun shops and check out whats out there. You will be surprized how many of the traditional gun come right up to the shoulder with a great site picture. Then again what can I say the modern guns are just like your centerfire rifle. I own and shoot both

I have to ask you this, where did you get your screen name I use to use it on another forum? (not hunting related)

Hello Hogan,

I've been shooting black powder rifles for close to 20 years now.

So far, the consensus is to go with a T/C Omega. And that is exactly what I would do.

I shot my new Omega last weekend for the 1st time. I've owned my share of traditional and inline's over the years. The Omega is absolutely the best inline I've ever laid hands on. Easy cleaning, and accuracy that shocked me.

Go with the Omega, you won't regret it.

Thanks for all the replies. I am looking to get into either a T/C Omega or CVA from Cabelas or Gander Mountain. I am going to look around to see where I can get the best price for my Savage. I don't expect to get to close to retail since they came out with the newer acutrigger models. I figure a nice down payment for a decent inline model.I would have taken an inline model at the gun bash had they had any model to offer. Mostly 7mm, 300mag rifles and shotguns were avalable to choose from.Just looking for something that I can actuallt get more use in actual hunting instead of just target practice.B.T.W....I can't say for certain where I got my screen name. Hulk Hogan was my favorite WWF wrestler, so it just kinda popped into my mind when selecting a user name.No significant meaning at all. I'll be out tomorrow running from store to store to see who will offer up the best price or trade-in for my Savage. I'll let you guys know what I end up with. Thanks again for all the advice.
