Default So...How Hot Is The No. 209 Primer You Use For Ignition...

Just read an interesting article about the strengths of various 209 primers. With all the talk around here about the infamous 777 crud ring, I thought I"™d post the link here.

Strength ranking of various 209 primers are included within article.

Worth a read.

In my rifles.. loose powder I use the Kleenbore Primers. Pellets I use the Winchester W209's. So far, so good.

I haven't seen that 3rd Winchester primer Toby mentions in a while I think it's discontinued.

I have no crud ring issues in my Omega with 777. When using this rifle-powder combo, aren't we all supposed to use a weak 209 primer, bore brush, shoot only every 4 minutes or so in warm weather, swab at-least every 2nd shot with alky/windex/washer fluid mix& keep the bore walls oil/lube/solvent-free?????

Oh... I forgot one..... avoid the range with it on high humidity days????

Hey Rebel, where did you get those? I could only find the Thermo-nuclear version, I missed out on the fission part. Maybe I'll have less crud ring with mine though.

The best 209 remedy for that 777 crud ring are the Winchester Triple Se7en 209 primers. In 2nd Place about seven lengths back are the discontinued Remington 209-4s. 3rd Place are the regular CCIs. Fourth Place belongs to the Remington Kleanbores.... primers that have a reduced flash than the CCIs, but leave a bigger mess.

These are my findings - Yours may be different.
