Default Finally !

I was about to give up on conicals in my thunderhawk because all that would give nice groups were sabots.... But today i went to the range with some 348 grain powerbelts and a jug of pinnacle 2f.

At 50 yard with peepsight i shot a 5 shot group that measured 1,5 (wide) by 3 inch. For me this is pretty decent andi am confident with some tuning the group will shrink a bit more..

some observations:

- virtually no recoil with 80 grains of pinnacle and the 348 PB compared to a 310 ballet with 80 grains of 777.
- Pinnacle appears not so much cleaner than 777 but cleanup is super easy !!
- out of 10 shots i had 3 misfires with the cci #11 caps.. i threw em away at the range and will immediately switch back to the new remingtons.

you can go to the TC website and order a conversion kit for the thunderhawk and use 209 shotgun primers. I hate those #11 caps, every year i was hunting with them, i always had the thought " will it fire?" in my head lol. I switched to flintlock and i have less misfires than i did with the #11's.

What new Remington #11 caps??

As far as I know, they have said "New" on the lid for 3-5 years now. They also have said "40% Hotter" for 3-5 years too.

I checked Remington's website. No new #11 capsthere for2006. They are pretty good - but not as potent as Dynamit Nobel 1075 Plus caps (red& green tins).

A good no#11 cap are RWS 1075+ I used them in my thunderhawk along with a t/c flame thrower nipple and can say never had a mis-fire even in wet weather.
I can also say the thunderhawk favors pyrodex select then goex 3F and shoots excellent with triple 777 as long as I keep my charges at 80 grains.

sorry tripple7 for the confusement.. those are the ones i was talking about i guess! Never had any problems with those "new" remingtons !

I guess for hunting the 209's might be the best bet in wet conditions.. i'll give that a thought !

I personally hate to modify a rifle with an ignition different then the manufacturer intended, but that's a personal preference of mine and has no bearing on those that have done so. As for caps, you can keep the Remington's and the standard CCI caps. The only two I really trust to get the job done are the Dynamite Noble RWS 1075 and the CCI Magnum #11 caps.

Friends were over last week with their children and the new rifles they bought for them. On one of their new Tradition's Springfield Hawkins, with a hot shot nipple. Unless he was shooting (MY) Goex and a RWS caps, he was in serious hang fire country. The other rifle was a CVA Deerslayer and that did not seem to care what was thrown down it.. They had brought a new jug of Pyrodex RS and some Remington caps.

It sounds like you have a good shooting rifle there... have fun and be safe.
