Default Winchester Muzzleloader

is anybody familar with this muzzleloader? I've noticed alot of them are on sale and I'm curious about buying one but I can't seem to find much information as far as how reliable they are or how well the shoot? Can anybody tell me if this rifle is a shooter or not?

You did not mention the model. Are we talking the Apex or the X150 I believe it is called? First off do not be fooled by the name Winchester. It has nothing to do with Winchester except for a trade mark sale. The rifle is made by BPI the same as the CVA and the Traditions among others.

They are a good rifle for what they are. I am sure the rifle would be a good shooter, although I wouldn't swear to the fact. I have a CVA Staghorn Magnum and it is a good shooter with 90 grains of 2f powder and the right projectile. Perhaps if you describe to the forum what you are looking for in a muzzleloader they might have some other selections that could be a better dollar value. Over all it will probably shoot fine, just be very careful with loading it as with any muzzleloader.

The Win X150 is a dressed-up CVA Firebolt
The Win Apex is a dressed-up CVA Kodiak

You get stainless barrel instead of nickel, metal sights intead of plastic & a slightly nicer resin-fiber in the synthertic stock. If I missed anything else that sets the CVA and Winchester apart, someone else here could add to this.

Muzzleloader accuracy cannot be compared to centerfires, shotguns and rimfires. Barrel diameter tolerances arelargerthroughout the ML manufacturingindustry. You may get an accurate one -- or you may not. If you plan on shooting magnum powder charges, I recommend a more expensive brand like Thompsonn Center.A large majorityof T/C Encores, Black Diamond XRs and Omegas generally shoot magnum 3-pellet loads pretty darn well.

Just my opinion.....

i shoot the x-150. Has the fluted 26" stainless steel barrel and camo stock, Great solid rifle and very heavy. 8 1/4lbs i belive. Thats okay tho, it absorbs the magnum loads. The only thing i didnt like were the sights. Im near sighted and the front sight was to small and it would be blurry when i looked down the barrel. I used cva's cheaper but large plastic sights. They are bigger and a lot brighter. Other than that, the rifle shoots great and never had any problems with it. It will be the only inline i'll ever own. I used to shoot the 150 mag loads and it did very good but im cutting back down to 120 grains with 245 grain powerbelt. You'll find that cva and winchester ML's shoot best with the powerbelts. Very good quality built rifle.. Get the stainless steel barrel, cleans out a lot easier then the blued barrels.

I have the Apex and it shoots great . I love the gun. It shoots all bullets well with 100 grains at 100 yards. Powerbelts 245 and T/C Shockwaves shoot the best out of it with triple 7. For the money you cannot go wrong.
