Default Ramrod Care?

Due to thealuminum cleaning rods pulling apart about half way down
the barrel. [:@]I have been using the wooden ramrods that comes on my
guns for cleaning them. The hot water baths have bleached them out
pretty bad. I've been wiping them down with gun oil and getting the
color back a little. "Questions" Will the oil weaken the rod?Or would
beeswax applied to the rod be better andhelp against the elements?

Could you recommend a goodfiberglass typerod or something
sturdythat I could use for cleaning .36 cal thru .54 cal rifles.
So many on the market now days till I'm not sure what would
best suit my needs.

Thanks

Scroll down a little bit and you will see some black powder cleaning kits. I have one of these myself. The rods are really nice heavy brass that packs down. These kits also come with ram rod guides wich I find really handy. The come in 45/50/54/58 calibers. I like mine because it is heavy brass and can pack down. My rod is really sturdy.

I bought a $15 non breakable ramrod at the local gun store. I use it for cleaning and just keep it on my gun while i use it. I accidently broke the last 2 wooden ramrods because my .490 round ball mold i bought must be throwing out slightly larger balls and they are tough to get down the bore after 2 or 3 shots. Ive switched back to store bought balls now and glad i did . I'll just have to order a new wooden ramrod and put it on the gun while its hanging on the wall. I dont like the aluminum ramrods, To dang noisy in the woods.

The site poster QuigleySharps sent to you to is very good. I got a brass one there... but a nice one for carrying with the rifle is the black anodized ramrods there. Very inexpensive - very sturdy & strong. Take a look throught that website. They might have something else you want. Good Folks running that place!

RMC sells a Rugged Rod. They are a very good unbreakable rod that really is a workhorse. Also keep your wooden rods for show.

I use a range rod in 32" for loading and cleaning all my rifles. That way I know it will not break, is long enough for any job, and will last for ever unless you shoot it down range (like I saw done not to long ago by a friend)...
