Default 50 Yard Zero Confirmation Target, 12 Bore Jaeger

Just to try to insure my Jaeger's sights are set correctly, I went to the range and fired three more shots on Thursday. (Three was enough for a nice big bruise on my shoulder!!)

Two shots were with a .715" ball, and one with the .735" ball, all with .010" lubed T/C patches & 150 grains of Swiss FFg,the sight used with the fixed, short-range leaf.

The thing loads real easy with the .715" balls, so a thicker patch may be in order, BUT at 50 yards, the .010" patch is OK!

I am convinced this rifle is going to shoot better than I can hold it!(Top hole was shot with a .58 Hawken, 6-o'clock hold!-it is going to need some reduction in the rear sight height!)

I can't get your picture to open, but I am sure that would be one heck of a powerful load with that charge and that large roundball... sounds like an excellent big game load.

I am surprized that the .010 patch and the .715 ball is OK. With 150FF and a .010 patch material wants to tear and shred.

I can shoot .015 pillow ticking after the first clean bore shot, using a .725 ball. That first shot with a clean bore needs light canvas to hold together.

All barrels are different, you got to use what works!

Enjoy your Large Bore.

yes, that worked fine. That is some very impressive shooting there. And a heck of a load.

I think if/when I ever get my really big bore rifle I will only go to a .62 caliber. While that is no where near the size ball you're shooting, it would have a sweeter recoil and still have the kind of weight and speed to get the job done.

I'm sure a .62" would be perfectly fine. In fact, I've always kinda wanted a British Baker rifle, or something close to it, and the Baker is a .62"....

Sproulman - thanks!
