Default Need some home made range swabbing solutions!!!

Im getting ready to do some range work and want to try something different than TC #13 or wonder lube 1000for swabbing. I have seen posts before but would like to get a group of recipes togetherof your favorite solutions. Im looking for cheaper ones in particular. Seems like alot of windex and alcohol users out there. Can you please be specific on the parts you use on each ingredient. Thanks for your info!!!!

-50% isopropyl alcohol 91 proof & 50% (summer blend if possible) windshield washer fluid.

-isopropyl alcohol 70 proof

-two squirts of dawn dish soap & fill liter bottle with tap water (only for 209 ignition users)

-Windex

-one liter spray bottle with three ounces (about 1/4 liter bottle bottom)of Simple Green Cleaner & fill bottle with tap water

Those are some of them that I use.

50%rubbing alcohol( buy the 70% brand) and 50% plain blue Windex (Meijer Brand)

6 parts rubbing alcohol
1/2 part Murphys Oil Soap
1 part hydrogen peroxide or vinegar

CVA(Slick Load) Barrel Solvent & Bore Cleaner
This stuff is weak enough to keep using your bore butter seasoning process. It's very similar to T/C 13. Another first cousin toSlick Load and T/C 13is....

Birchwood Casey BC77 Black Powder Solvent

I use 2.5"X2.5" cotton GI cleaning patches at the range. I put one in my mouth and sorta chew on it until it is good and wet with saliva. I then swab the barrel from muzzle to breech twice with tis patch, then do the same with a clean, dry one and reload. This is when I'm using real black powder. When using a substitute like Pyrodex, no cleaning is necessary between shots.

Nice idea... unless you just ate some potato chips or are a carrier of excess body salts.

It is not home-made but, I have been using plain old windex with ammonia since I started shooting some 7/8 years ago - works really well for me. The solution dissolves powder residue like it wasn't even there.

i have tried other solutions nver been as happy with them as with windex - so i am still there...

If you are just wiping between shots, I use a spit patch. The amount varys on the humidity........high humidity, less wet.

for cleaning .........straight windex

I also use the Iso/Washer mix.

I have a small tupperware type of container that is just large enough in diameter to fit .50 cal patches. Istack about 2-3 inches worth of patches in to the container and pour in pre-mixed solution. Not a whole lot, just enough to saturate all of the patches and then a tad more to account for the inevitable evaporation.

The container is mostly air tight so the patches stay damp for quite some time-a few weeks anyway. When I get to the range and need a cleaning patch, I just take a "pre-moistened" cleaning patch from the container.

It works great. Its also helpful for gun cleanup afterward.

Hope that helps.
