Default Bighorn Solutions

Finally got a good load figured out for the Bighorn and Sabots. The 375gr Buffalo SSB without the factory sabot works well in the crush rib harvester. I tried the 3 petal MMP's as well. It is a bit loose on the fit. Managed to get some 5" groups at 100 yds with about 20-30 mph crosswind. Can't wait to see what it will do on a non-windy day. Just finished off the first pound of 777 and started into the second. The muzzleloading bug has difinately bitten. I hav some Precision Rifle 360 grain HP elites on the way. I am going to give them a shot as well. So far it is a toss up between the No-excuses 460 grain and the Buffalo SSB's. Can't wait to hear the bugle in the fall and see what a 50 cal can do.

well it should be interesting to see what the Percision bullets will do. I am glad to see that the rifle is shooting so many different projectiles well for you... Good luck chasing the bugler in the fall.

Are you saying that the MMP 3-petal load easier than the Harvester crush ribs??

The Precision Extreme Elites are built similar to the Buffalo S.S.B's. Some say they are the Dead Centers without the polymer tip. I don't know for sure - since I never placed them side-by-side with each other.

Of the sabots that I currently have the originals that came with the SSB bullets were the tightest. The Harvester Crush ribs were about the right pressure to stay put. The MMP 3-petals were looser than the Harvester Crush ribs. They were not super loose, but could be easily loaded without the need for a bullet starter. I had better grouping with the Harvesters. I have some MMP HPH24's coming that I am going to try as well. So far I am happy with the Harvesters. I am also going to try the Preciscion Rifle bullets. Eventually I will stumble upon the best solution. Nothing is really all that bad, but I would still rather be able to shoot the eye out even if I don't have to.

Well at least you have the right attitude. All too often people try one or two sabot projectile combinations and if they do not work, they consider the rifle no good. Some rifles are not too fussy others are terrible. If I had a dollar for each kind of projectile I have tried in rifles.. I could buy more bullets..
