RE: Im new to the sport
If this is a Kentucky model rifle such as a traditional rifle which is ignited by a #11 cap on the side nipple, it probably has a 1-48 or 1-66 twist. This rifle is meant to shoot roundball. You will need to get some .440 roundball and patch for the rifle. Lay the patch over the end of the muzzle and then a ball centered in the patch and drive that into the barrel and finally down onto the powder charge.
The projectiles you are talking about are meant to be put in a sabot. A .45 caliber rifle technically has a .450 diameter bore give or take .003. The projectiles you are talking about would be too large for the bore of the rifle. Besides the accuracy would suffer very bad with that kind of projectile.
Get some Pyrodex or Goex in 3f and some shoot 2f. Start your rifle with about 50 grains and then the patch and ball and have some fun....
