Default Cardboard Wads

I know a guy at work that shoots alot of conicals and always uses wads. He said he uses regular cardboard box with a 1/2 punch and he also uses the 28 guage AA wads with the petals cut off. Would the regular carboard box wads even work? I've heard the plastic wads work but I'm kind of leary about the cardboard idea. Any feedback would really be appreciated. Oh he shoots alot of the no-excuses BTW.

there are people that use simple card board boxes, also the cardboard milk cartons, then there is corn meal as a buffer, and I have used construction grade wool felt from the lumber yard. All this can be made with a hollow hole punch.

Or go to the TOTW and get 1000 wads for around $12.00 I think it was.

Yep, like Cayugad said - they'll work. But you can get those 1/8" nitro card wads for 7.50/1000 from TOTW. Punching wads is not my idea of a good time.

Track of the Wolf (TOTW) also has punches.

for the cost of their punches ... I ordered mine from Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=3838 They were a lot cheaper, and you get more punches and these things do come in handy for different things..

Hey thanks all for the feedback. So cayugad after I pick up my punches from Harbor Freight should I try regular cardboard or try the backing from paperpads. Also I was thinking the cardboard used for box games like monopoly and the sorts would also work. What do you guys think? Also do I use the 1/2 size punch for my .504 white?

The White is a .504 diameter the 1/2 inch punch will make a .500. You might want to look for a 9/16th punch which will make a little larger card, although the 1/2 inch should work. You can use any kind of cardboard I would guess, although in your case I might suggest some construction wool felt also..

I've never made wads out of cardboard boxes for my rifle.
