Default Ultra Mag - Work out #2

Was able to get out this afternoon and get some shooting in. I continue to be amazed with this new gun.I was able to get 25 more shots in today bringing my total to 80 rounds through the gun - so I guess nobody would consider it broken in yet.

I continue to use the 209 ignition, but I think I have licked the stuck primer problem. The nipple/breech plug combination I have is the older style without any spring. Doc says the new one that i just ordered is suppose to be better. Anyway I found cleaning the inside of the nipple with a Q-tip dipped in windex worked great - didn't get any 209's stuck at all today. I was only planning on cleaning every 3-5 shots - but it was so darn hot I ended up cleaning each shot just to kill time and allow the barrel to cool down.

My other experiment of the day was the sealing of the breech plug from blow back into the threads. Doc's manual says finger-tight - I have never really been a believer in that - so I always gently snug it up wrapped with teflon tape. The tape is wrapped partly over the nose so the shoulder of the plug mates with the shoulder of the barrel. Last time out I did loosen the BP and re-tighten after 10 rounds - it broke free very easily - in my mind I knew also that i had probably destroyed my teflon seal but I went on to shoot several more rounds. This trip I shot all 25 shots with out moving the BP. Got home, pulled the end cap and hammer - inserted socket and prayed (a little bit) It turned right out - loosened it with the ratchet and socket - then turned it out with my fingers... I was impressed.

My next trip, I am hoping the cap hammer will be here and I will switch to the #11 nipple/plug. Doc feels that this is by far the more waterproof system of the 3 - in Idaho that is an important consideration, and of course during ML season I have to use a percussion cap.

Well as simple as it might be here is today's target - but I must pay a bit hommage(can't spell) to the pimp's Head Pimp Underclocked and his associate Cayugad for conning me into buying this gun.

I decided only to shoot one bullet today and see what kind of group that I might come up with on this the second outing. Still shooting plastic and relatively light bullets. You know I do feel a bit put down by you guys calling it plastic - it and I have advanced - it is polymere - goodness sakes that is like comparing Miller Light to Bud Light - one is old one is new and everyone knows Bud Light is the mans beer.

Once again the gun shot really well - I still contend the gun can shoot better than I can show you - but I am happy to know it will shoot well enough to get my animal.

That is some very impressive shooting there. Not to mention a good hard hitting powerful load you have going there. Nice shooting.

Sabotloader, you do good on every thing but the beer. Lee
And just in passing mention as we also need waterwing during late deer season, the 25APC conversion is supposed to be very easy to water proof by rubbing a bit of beeswax around the cases. Lee
