Default Valid Test?

Going Boar hunting will use 250 bonded SW for the first shot, going to shoot him again even if I have to prop him up to do it; I really want to see what the 50/40 200 gr. will do on something as tough as a boar.
If hes not alive should the results of the testbe the same? Lee

I think the results should be very similar. Granted you are not having blood pressure active in a dead animal, but one freshly killed would not have time for the degeneration of muscle mass and tissue decay.

Yes I believe it would be a valid test as Cayugad
stated. The muscle & tissue mass would be the
same. The "SHOCK" that the bullet uses to make
the kill is calculated using the amount of water &
blood when figuring the mass or terminal velocity.
I'm jealous I've tried to geta boar hunt going for
three years. I'm afraid to even say anything about
it anymore, seems when I start thinking about it
everything that can go wrong does go wrong at
work!!![&:] If ya don't mind where are you going
to hunt? If you didn't have so many requests
to shoot the boar, I'd ask you to shoot it with a
Hornady 300gr. XTP Good Shooting
& God Bless

Lee

do not want you to beat up your hog to bad - but i would like to see you pop that thing again with two shots - one at close range 30/40 yards one at a 100 or so - just my search for information..

I'll be most interested in your results. From what I have gathered so far from various terminal reports on the 50/40 200 grain Shockwave, I would expect it perform pretty well.

This a great idea. I hope to try something similar to this next deer season. The fella I hunt with (who introduced me to ML) is a huge fan of powerbelts. When we butcher deer we're lucky to find any of the fragments in the animal (they don't exit, they just explode). I'm trying to get him to consider a saboted load and this sort of experiment might sway him.

Since I'm not a huge fan of venison ribs (there's really not much there anyway) an extra broadside shot after the fact would be intersting and make good conversation.

My two cents on the validity of the test...absolutely valid. Especially if both shots did not cross paths of flight (hence tear through already torn up tissues). As a veterinarian, I've opened many a carcass and agree that the shock of the bullet will give similiar results. The only potential problem I forsee depends on whether the chest is opened grossly and the lungs punctured. Many are probably familiar with the decompression of the chest when the diaphragm is cut. In the same way, if a bullet were to allow air into the space around the lungs (pneumothorax) the lungs would shrivel up in the chest. Thus, a second shot into this chest may not even come in contact with lung tissues and would likely exit the opposite side. But I think this is unlikely as I don't ever remember opening a diaphragm in a chest shot deer that didn't hiss as the air escaped. But this is a case for taking the second shot asap. The same principle should hold true for boar.

Sorry for the novel.

Good stuff.

Thank you all for the help and ideas. I will try a second and possably a third if I can't get long range I will try a different load. My Omega will shoot well with the 250 bonded and 120 gr APP FF so that is planned for the first shot, the second will be 150 [3 X sticks APP] and 50/40 200gr,the third will either be from a distance or with 110 APP and the 50/40 200gr.
You all have given me some good ideas and any comments will be wecome. Lee
