Default Performance of Nosler Accu Bond on elk?

I've been shooting my 7 mm Remington mag. at the range alot in preperation for an upcoming elk hunt this fall. I've been shooting Remington Core-Lokt's just because they are cheap to shoot and will allow me alot more practice. I decided to order some premium bullets, I don't reload, to see which ones will be more accurate out of my gun. I ordered all shells in 160 gr. and tried Remington Safari Grade Swift A-Frame ptd sp, Remington Premier Core-lokt Ultra psp, Federal Nosler partition, Federal Barnes Triple-Shock X-bullet, and Federal Nosler Accu Bond.

The Federal Nosler Accu Bond was definately the most accurate out of my gun. Has anyone tried this bullet on big game, especially elk, to know what the on game performance is? I know if the bullet hits the vitals with a perfect, no large bone, impact the result will be predictable. But, how does this bullet, with a "plastic tip", perform on impacts with large bone in a less-than-perfect shot placement. Anyone have any feedback?

According to the data on the box of all these shells, the Accu Bond delivers more downrange velocity and energy than all the other shells I tried, 2280 fps & 1850 ft-lbs at 400 yds. I like this shell! Can I depend on it in a less-than-perfect shot? Thanks to everyone, I've learned alot on this forum!

The .30-caliber 200-grain Accubond preformed the same for me on elk as the 200-grain Nosler Partition. This bullet was shot from my 300-win. mag.

I used these last year in the .270 140 grain - was very favorably impressed. At 3250 fps muzzle velocity, the bullet hit an elk broadside at 275 yards - went in just behind the shoulder and came out through the off shoulder. Elk staggered about 35 yards and went down. The shape of the "wound channel" was similar to the partition - made a fairly big hole through the ribs and then settled into a smaller hole through the lungs - but the end result was very satisfactory.

P.S.: Bullet was not recovered.

I used the exact same setup last year (7mmremmag with 160gr AB) to harvest both Bull's - Elk and Moose. While I never really encountered heavy bone (ie shoulder on either shot) the bullet did a job on the vitals and had complete pass throughs with good sized exit wounds. In both case the animals never made it out of my sight before hitting the ground. The elk was approx 150 slight quarter shot and the moose was 100 yard range broadside. I have no quams about using them again for elk or moose and even in a heavy sluggin situation. If your expecting longer shots I think the likes of the AB will perform very well!

Prior I used the NP with equally good results. In the end it came down to accuracy, but I must amdit my curiousity on how the AB would fair was high...so far more than pleased.

You may also want to try the Winchester failsafe a great bullet for bigger game and especially heavy bone encounters, if concerned. I have used it prior with great results, however my current 7mmremmag does not chuck them as well as others...YET!

Thanks for the responses everyone. Because of the accuracy that these bullets perform out of my rifle I am going to give them a try on elk this fall. I still need to do a lot more shooting with them but they are impressive. Thanks alot!
