Default 6.55X55 swedish

do you people believe that the 6.55X55 swedish is a good mule deer rifle? I am new to this particular rifle and would like to know what would be a good load on the mule and possibly the whitetail deer?

It is one of the very best of the best rifles for Mule deer. I have taken at least fifty mule deer with mine. It is also one of the only guns I have ever had that has never once required a second shot to put deer down to stay. The 6.5 Swede kills better than its paper ballistics would ever indicate. I think some of the reasons are that its bullets have a very good sectional density and its velocity is high enough for expansion but not high enouigh for over expansion which will decrease penetration. Of course that is considering useing good bullets. The 140 grain Hornady Innerlock has take 99 percent of the game I have taken with mine.

Moose and Black Bear can also be taken easily with the 6.5x55. For close range I would go with the 160 grain Hornady RN for moose and Bear. Any Good 140 grain bullet will also do the job. I love the 6.5x55. Mine is a sporterized Model 38 Mauser.

The 129 gr. Hornady also has a very good reputation in this caliber.

Well I've only used Winchester Super X and it's worked extremely well for me. I can't even feel the recoil and mine's pretty accurate.

KonaBoy i concur, the 6.5x55 makes a very good deer rifle. There is only one game animal i would think and look twice, big Bears! Thats so i could make sure i was aimimg at the right point before i squeezed the trigger. [&:]

I have 3 Swedes, 2 CG's M96 and a Husky commercial. I agree with the 140 gr interloks, 140 gr corlokts are also quite accurate. One thing I've found is they like the bullet seated out as far as possible. Nice mild shooting gun.

I have a sporterized military sweede. Fantastic cartridge. Mine likes the
Hornady's as well, both 129's and 140's. It will have no problem taking mulies.
