Default Cabela's Windshear Fleece

I am looking for a wind stopping article of clothing to sandwich between 2 layers of wool.

Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) with Cabela"™s WindShear Fleece?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Steve

Why do you want to have your windblocker between your two insulating layers? Your wool layers would be MUCH more effective if your windblocking layer was the last layer between you and the elements.

Let me put it this way, during good winds, your effective insulating layers would only be any layers below your windblock layer.

Btw, that is alot of wool... what is your base layer?

Spyro,

I went with 100% Merino Wool long underwear...nice stuff, I've been happy with it.

I plan on topping it with a Woolrich Alaskan Shirt. I'm looking at the Cabela's WindShear as my middle layer.

If the weather really turns nasty, I'll break out the foul weather gear, but I am hoping the use this combination most of the time.

Regards,
Steve

Steve,

Gotcha... I thought that you were wearing 2 layers of wool, 1 layer of fleece and then a base layer of top of it. That would seem to make for too much warmth.

I used to wear alot of Woolrich shirts w/ a Patagonia base layer. I'd just usually top it off with a Simms Windblocker Fleece Vest.

You seem to have a good combo.

It works great. I have one and a windstopper/wool sweater I wear under my outer garments. I like the "under garment" philosophy, as it allows you to be versitle with your outer camo patterns. I am up in the Lake Superior snow belt of Wisconsin and weather can get pretty nasty, and can change without notice. I can go from traditional camo, to my fleece snow camo when the weather changes quickly, and still be toasty underneath.

I highly recommend it.

W&M,

I live in Sun Prairie...right outside of Madison. I am gearing up for a trip to Colorado this fall and for some Northern Wisconsin whitetails next year.

Regards,
Steve
