Default Bow hunt in CO

Is the week just before muzzleloader season starts (sept 11) the best for bowhunting? The elk skould be bugleing and without loud shots they should be less spooked.Thank You.

I have heard elk bugle before opening weekend. There are a lot of things that can change how the season runs. The biggest being weather. But the time frame you are talking about is good. I have not seen the muzzle loaders have a great impact on my hunting, but I out walk most of them. And that has always been a big key. Your biggest key will be getting in shape to handle the altitude change. They are long days, starting at 4 and ending long after dark[7:30ish]. It is beautiful country and a great time of year to be in the mountains.

I should have given more background in the first post. I have been hunting NW of Eagle CO at 8500-1100 feet for the last 5 years and have been lucky to shoot a 5x5 and two 6x6 bulls in that time but next year will be the first bow hunt. We hunt the third deer/elk season(end of Oct. begining of Nov.)The others in our camp over the last 5 years have shot three other 5x5 bulls and a cow. I also looked up our GMU and there is no muzzleloader season in that unit.

If there isn't a draw tag for muzzle loader in that unit it means it is part of the state wide tag. So there will be a muzzle loader season in that unit. Units 25,26 &35 all fall in that class of state wide muzzle loader tag.
