No elk Larry,
My recommendation is to seriously consider and then buy Elknut1's cds. They have a TON of info and are perfect for what you are looking for.

Larry, North American Elk, Ecology and Management & Elk, Behavior, Ecology, Conservation, these are not hunting books per say. But they will teach you how elk tick. Add this with stuff from Elknut for calling. And I live in Colo. We can push you in the right direction. Look at units 551 and 55.

I gut my elk just like I do a deer, start at the bottom and work up.To 1/4 one I split in 1/2 with 2 hatchets, then behind the 7th rib I cut with a knife and split the spine.Load onto the saddles with ropes and some knots and away I go.

Now your getting somewhere No elk Larry. Hopefully by this time next year we can call you elksteak Larry. I agree with watching elknuts videos. Paul has a bunch to offer in the way of information. All of the information given on this thread will definatly play a key role to your chances at an elk. By coming on here and posting you are definatly showing the drive to get an elk. The passion that I have developed for elk hunting has driven me to find out everything that I can about elk. Just when you think that you have them all figured out, you learn something new. Good luck on your quest.

No elk larry

Where you from ? Iam a flatlander I assume you are too Ive been going out to Co. 10 years now the one thing I can tell you start now get in the best shape you can get in before you go. It is the biggest singal thing that can help you in your hunting out west cause if you cant get to the elk you cant kill elk .

I will let the other guys fill in the rest of the blanks if you need a list of stuff you need out there let me know most of the time us flatlanders take to much stuff only slows you down.
