Default My Son's First Buck

Howdy form Montana,

I haven't been on the board for quite a while now. We have been very busy on the ranch due to my brother leaving. We are operating with 50% of the workforce that we were last year.

Our season went very well this year, however. My son killed this buck last Saturday while helping me on the ranch. We spotted him in mid-afternoon and were able to get within 200 yards with his .243. It was a great day, what more can a guy ask for than to be with his son when he takes his first buck. But to have it be a 180 class buck, it dosen't get any better than that.

OK, enough braggin'. Here's the photo:

Indeed!! A nice buck!! Congrats to your son!!

manwithgreenjeans - Where does it say this animal came from a game ranch? I believe he is speaking of a cattle ranch that he was working on.

Blackhawk357, Who was happier, your son or you? Being with your son was great I know. My boy has 3 more years than he gets his first chance. I think I am more antsy than he is about it. Give your son congrats from me on a job well done. That buck will make a nice addition to a room.

This is the wife of the dad who posted the first buck picture. You are right, it didn't say a game ranch and to the other gentleman, no, a ranch is not a ranch is not a ranch. We are raising the fourth generation of Nansel's on our ranch-- 27,000 acres of working cattle ranch. We also have a hunting and riding program. Exclusive access hunts on that many acres is not exactly a game ranch and not a "given" hunt! There are no game fences, and the game travels between ranches freely. He worked hard! Have a nice evening gentlemen!

Hi guys, sorry, my wife got home before I did tonight.

manwithgreenjeans ~
After re-reading my original post, i see that it is a tad vague on that point. Our ranch is a cattle ranch with no game fences. 10 years ago it was terribly over hunted. All we did is limit access. The population has grown and the natural genetics have really come through. Seams to me to be just good management. No hard feelings!

elknut1 & charlie brown~ Thanks, i appreciate your kudos!

gselkhunter~
That's a good question. He really didn't know how good he was until we got to the taxidermy shop. He's pretty happy, but you know how parenthood is.
