RE: Happy Thanksgiving
We do indeed have so much to be thankful for that it is easy to take it for granted.
Thanksgiving is one of our great family traditions and a heritage of our country. Though different, the comeraderie, fellowship and bonding that takes place at holidays such as this is akin to the comeraderie, fellowship and bonding that takes place on a good remote hunt. IMHO a good Thanksgiving get together deserves the same vigor of planning and execution as does a hunting trip.
We've got 27 coming over and yes it is work, but the memories are priceless, on tomorrow's board of fare (meat wise):
** Injected/marinaded oil fried turkey,
** Honey brown, spiral cut on the bone ham,
** Elk Roast (just for a little contrast; injected, marinaded, and crock potted)
** and for along about 430pm,..... some elk backstrap and tenderloin medallions....
cut up small serving, and then laid out on a plate with a toothpick in each one kinda like horsdorves. A plate full usually don't last 10 minutes and then its back to the couches, recliners, and the floors.
Some potential elk hunters coming up thru the ranks.... may have to engage in some deer hunting in the coming years as a stepping stone to help get them developed for the leap to elk hunting. Maybe, once they're in high school and have muscled up enough, helped set up camp, gone summer scouting, and show they got what it takes.... it'll be interesting --- one inparticular is "chomping at the bit" to get after it.
We're all here for just a short "tour of duty"....
Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of yours,
EKM
