Greetings all,
I just got back from area 700--MT where I was for 5 days elk and mule deer hunting. I got my first mule deer ( this being the first year of hunting for me out west)--I'm sure most of you regulars know my story by now. I want to officially thank barebackJack and his friend Clint for coming along and teaching elk hunting 101 in the field. Bareback saw a couple of nice bulls and we saw a herd in the road before daylight (cows and scrubs). My buck is a respectable 3x4 20 incher with good mass. We saw some much nicer ones and a lot of beautiful country. I am going back for another 4-5-6 days at the end of next week, around 11/10/04 (probably be there the same time you are ironranger) to again try for a shot at a bull. I personally have yet to see an elk when I am on the ground with gun in hand, but am still optimistic. If anybody has any hot elk sightings/tips for that area--my heart would soar like a hawk--meanwhile--two shots fired--two animals in the freezer. good luck to alll
HB

Congrats you dawg! I tried to get out there but the stupid elk here in Hamilton are not playing along. I did see a good 6x6 this evening so I pretty fired up. As soon as I tag my bull I'm going east for muley. I have now taken 5 weeks off of work and next week as well. My wife is starting to hint that it is time for me to go make some money. Women, i can't let work interfere with my hunting.
