RE: Late season elk hunt Help
I don't hunt or live in Eastern Oregon, but can tell you that cows are normally the first to leave snow depths of about 18"+. They look for lower elevations where food is more plentiful with out having to paw for it all day. The bigger bulls can tolerate deeper snow depths. Many times 3' to 4' has to be on the ground before they'll budge to lower elevations. But elk are very active when the snow is falling. If temps drop to 10deg. and lower, elk seem to stay out much longer to feed trying to consume feed that helps keep their body temperature up. So if it's either snowing or turning very cold look for elk to be moving and feeding!! Good Luck!! ElkNut1
