Default Montana Rifle Season one week out...

After battle the resident bulls for over a month with my bow, I can say I will be glad to tote my rifle out in a week. Looks like they might still be bugeling opening day. My set up: Winchester pre-64 XTR featherwieght, leupold Vari-II Matte 3x9, Hornady light mag 180 grains.

COOL!! Good luck on your hunt. I have been chasing mulies since the 2nd and have seen enough does to make me sick (about 80 so far). Only 2 more days left to hunt, lets see what happens!!

I hope you are right about the bulls still bugleing for the opening of rifle season. I'm flying in Saturday for a 7 day pack in trip out of Lewiston on my first elk hunt. I had figured the rut would be over and the bulls silent, that would be so cool to hear elk bugle.
Just hearing and seeing elk would make my trip 90% worthwhile, of course it wouldn't hurt to actually put one down

Good luck muley69. I hope you get your bull. My elk seson starts a week from Saturday here in Colorado. I can't wait. We have been getting a lot of snow in the high country, so hopefully it will push them down below treeline.

Latest I've heard in that they were still bugeling on 10/18. Starting to get snow up high, it's looking pretty good. Good luck to all. Today is Friday, seaons opens Sunday. I have taken a week off and will be moving my camper into the high country today!
