Default Choice of Bugle call

I have been using mouth calls for turkeys for years, however I am unable to produce a good bugle in a tube using a mouth call. Is there a bugle call on the market that is as "sure fire" as the Hootchie Mama is for cows?
thanks, Paul

Biker, I assume your finding it hard to replicate a bugle by way of using a diaphram call with or without a tube. I haven't heard of anything in the same fashion as a squeeze call for a bugle, however I know many who find the Hyper Lip Bugle by Primos to be a decent bugle to use. I am sure their are others as well, that I haven't tried or used. Right now I am using the Primos "Terminator" Bugle, it takes a little bit of practice for lip placement and pressure but with sometime should be manageable. I would suggest whatever bugle you buy get a video or audio tape for instructions and usage of that product. Then Practice, Practice and Practice some more.

I second the terminator bugle from Primos. The silicon reed never rots and is, IMO, very easy to learn to produce a realistic bugle. It will make sounds from small rag horns to the biggest and baddest bull out there.

Also look at Abe and Sons bugle. Same style of mouthpiece just a little smaller. This one also produces very real sounds.

Biker

Don't be so quick to throw in the towel there. The combonation of a mouth reed and grunt tube are the way to go. When perfected, your sounds are much more realistic, you'll be able to make all sounds by both bulls and cows, it's worth your time & effort. There's no real external mouth reeds on a tube that compare to reeds in your mouth. Most sounds out of the horns have human written all over them. I'd at least do some more practicing with them since you can turkey call with them. In the long run you'll be happy you did!! elknut1

The power bugle by ELK INC is the only non diaphram call that I have used that produces a realistic sounding bugle. It is very easy to produce realistic bugles with a little practise.

I have a Carlton bugle. It uses a diaphragm, but puts in into a mouthpiece that places in your mouth at the right angle to blow. I was able to produce a realistic bugle with very little practice. I can't use the diaphragm in the mouth either.

I 2nd the Power Bugle for the beginner, but really like the ol' reed and tube once you get experienced. Also, that darn Hoochie Mama Primos came out with last year rocks!! Every one of our crew now has one -- mostly because they just keep working over and over and you don't have to worry about the reeds getting wet, all that. We combine the Hoochie, the Sceery calls and reeds in our mouths for all our sounds and our "mock" elk herd!

I like the Power Bugle. But i bought a Abe and Sons tube with the sound chamber and took the power bugle tip off and slid it inside the A&S tube. Sounds great.

Abe & Sons is your best bet. Good luck.

hands down best and easiest elk call to use is the Mini Thunder by Glen Berry Calls AKA Big Bull Productions
