Default New field dressing tool

Anyone seen this new field dressing device called the "Colorado go (game opening) tool?" I saw it at a gun show in Montrose Colorado. Its designed to open the ribcage and pelvis of big game. They had a video of this new tool splitting the pelvis and ribcage of an elk with ease. Saws are a pain and I have beat up plenty of good hunting knives getting through the pelvis of deer and elk. Check this new tool out at coloradogotool.com and let me know what you think. I think they're on to something.

Could double as a Jaws of Life emergency device.

Lol, you read my mind!

I haven't heard of it, but it sure sounds interesting. Thanks for the tip.

Looks like it would sure do the trick.... just one problem.

We've went to the Alaskan method on elk and we don't bother cutting neither the sternum nor the pelvis. No more going elbow deep in blood and guts and no more "blood mud" around the carcass where you have to work.

My new field dressing tool (toy) in my pack is a box cutter ($3.50) with the adjustable but fixed depth settings and the extra razor/utilty blades in the handle for making the "hide cuts". No more Wyoming knives or gut hooks either. We still each take the Gerber hand saw though!

Good Luck and Good Hunting,
EKM

I agree EKM.
There should be no need to cut either the pelvis or sternum, unless you are quartering and removing the entire carcass with all bone intact.

I know that we use one of those cord saws that are just a flexible piece of steel with sharp bits coating everything. Works great, much better that a "fixed" saw.
