About a year ago, I sold some raffle tickets for the NWTF - Women in the Outdoors. The 4 winners got to choose from 4 prizes. One of the prizes was a bear and wolf hunt in Ontario. My friend won it, but he hasn't been able to get in touch with the guide/ outfitter since he was awarded it in August 2003. The hunt must take place in August 2004.
I was wondering if anyone has heard of these people or dealt with them. The NWTF will not do anything to help. They only gave my friend the name and address of the contact:
Ivey Gelzins
Classic Hunts of Ontario, Ltd.
PO Box 63
Davisburg, Michigan 48350
They provided a phone number, but I won't put it here.
Any suggestions?

PS - I think it was pretty irresponsible the way NWTF is handling the issue. Since I just want my friend to make it on the hunt, I am not pursuing the NWTF - yet.

Something stinks here and it isn't just the cheese. As there is no spring bear hunt in Ontario it's impossible for the winner to hunt bear in Ontario before the fall of 2004. gg.

The address is from Mich.. I would be very surprised to see it was legit. An Ontario big game guide would be located in Ontario and not in Mich. As another has said, no open season for bear until Sept. and spring hunting for wolf? Doesn't make sense. I think your friend got burned.
Could be true, he said the hunt must be taken in August 04. I know of a number of outfitters in Ontario that are American, many have US addresses for the offseason.
Thanks for the information, y'all. I'll let my friend know. I doubt he is willing to go anyway. By now, he's thinking he's going to be left at the airport.

As i'm reading this i'm also holding a copy of the ontario regulations.
For non-residents of ontario WMU's 1 through 45 all start on AUG. 15
WMU's 46 to 68 start in Sept.

I did some checking around and contacted my friend who arranged the donated hunt. She swears up and down the guy is legit and said he was a close friend of her husband's. She called Ivey and he said he never heard from my friend. So, she sent my friend Ivey's number and told him to call that night. Well, appearently, the NWTF gave my friend the wrong phone number.
So, the hunt is set for the last few days of August and the first few days of September. I was hoping my friend would take me, but my husband might object. Instead, he is taking a professional wildlife photographer.
Thanks for your advice and help.
Tracey
