Default Do you guys do any Mushroom hunting?

Outside of "big game", this would have to be my favorite hunting season.

I love morels. I use to hunt for them all the time when i was growing up but have moved since then and havent taken the time to find some areas to pick.

I always thought that morels would be GREAT to try seeing as how I love mushrooms. But I can't seem to find anywhere to buy them let alone hunt them. Where do they grow, and what time of year do you look for them?

Bearklr, here in PA you hunt morels during the spring. Black looking ones normally come up first, and the large yellows come last. Some years you can hunt into the month of May. When stuff starts popping out of the ground, you're normally ready to go. I hunt mostly three different kinds of trees, dead elm, live ash, and live poplar. Apple's also pretty good, but I don't have it to hunt. Beech, some people claim also. You can buy morels on ebay, and I did that around Christmas myself. Have you ever eaten Portabellas? My family likes those better than the morels, and you can normally buy them anytime at your grocery store.
