Default My 1st hog hunt...what a blast!!!

I went on my first hog hunt this weekend, in Faxon, Oklahoma. No idea just what to expect. My boss had asked several of us if we wanted to go after we were done with the hunting season. It was to be done with knives or spears..hahaha, what a rush. The cur dogs ride the hood of the truck till they get the scent and their off at the chase to put the hog at bay. Once they have done their part the pitbulls are released within a short distance of the bay. The pits hold the hog till you get there and do what needs to be done with knife or spear. We all used knives. Between the four of us we took 6 hogs. I took a 150 lb boar and a 300 lb boar, which I will have mounted. These are actually small hogs, as some of them can get upwards of 700 lbs. The fellow I rode with and I left on sunday morning, while the other 2 stayed and hunted sunday night. The 2 that stayed, latched into some of the larger hogs sunday night, with no success. Believe me there is definetly an element of danger in hunting them this way. The hog can get away from the dogs and turn on you or even do a number on the dogs. I will post pics of what we came home with when they are developed. I do have 3 large coolers of meat for the freezer.

Dave, I was going to get all over you for putting a hog hunt in the Big Game Forum, but when you said you got one 300#'s and they get to be 700#'s there, I guess thats pretty Big Game. I have stuck many of those things in the south, my biggest though was a 225# piney wood rooter that was the size of a 55 gallon barrel, stuck him with a 125 thunderhead, it had some nice 4" tuskers.
I got a scar to this day on my left finger where I got hooked when I tried to knife one after shooting it with a bow, they can be pretty nasty. I always hated the way they smelt when field dressing, they just stank [&o] Bobby
