Default Elk weight estimation

Got my spike a week ago here in Washington (only legal bull we can shoot w/ general tag). I took JUST the 4 quarters to the butcher and they weighed in at 155 lbs. Can anyone guesstimate the live weight? It was only the 4 legs quarters, skinned, no lower leg, no ribs or backstrap or loins.

Thanks!

As a rule of thumb - take the dressed wieght and divide by 3. Add that to the dressed weight.

Say your elk with bs, ribs and loins with hide is 240 lbs.
270/3=90
270+90= 360lbs. approx. on the hoof weight

Thanks. I' ve found some formulas for estimating after just gutting them out but I only weighed the 4 quarters. I' m thinking live weight was probably at least double the weight of the 4 quarters. Anyone know for sure?

Congrats power on your hunt. We never really weigh our animals but around 400 (give er take a few pounds) would be close for a spiker. I shot a 5x5 this fall and we estimated him around 600, figure his 1/4' s were about 125 a piece...heavy to haul up the valley I know that. We also got a spiker (head be around that 400) and the biggest a 6x6 that was easily 750-800...he was a lot of fun
