Good gun for South Dakota

This has probably been beat to death on here, but I' ve been gone for a while. I' m getting stationed to south dakota and I was going to buy a new rifle to hunt with out there. What do most people hunt with in that neck of the woods? I' ll be hunting everything I can. Thanks in advance.

i know alot of people around here that shoot 270' s and also 300' s , i go with the 270 it has enough knock down power for anything.

Last I heard it was along ways from one end of SD to the other! Will you be hunting the brushy bottoms of the Missouri, the great praires of the middle section or the " Colorado-like" mountains of the Black Hills? It unwise to simply apply generalities to what is likely to be specifics. Where are you stationed? What game are you after and what parts of the state can you get a license with out preference points (due to your new arrival)?
