I would NOT find this hard to believe, a bear sense of smell is out right incredible, a easy food source will pull them and hold them in a smaller area
think like how deer yard up in winter time over a food source!
average bear has about a 20 mile home range, and bears been known to smell a kill from 10 miles out, NO Bull, feel free to look it up!
home ranges over lap, and again that easy food, and all the more so if done yr after yr, as bears have long term memories to food sources
and well, real simple, you have more bears in smaller areas!

look at spawning rivers and fish< same deal, just on wild baiting LOL
