Default Elk wallow queston

If I am to justify to the wife why I spent so much money in 2003 in hunting gear, I need to bag an elk second season. This is my first year hunting..and Im bowhunting. I spent the majority of my first 2003 hunting days getting lost in the Oregon mountains and spending the day trying to get out..lol But while lost I came across a hidden meadow about the size of a football field surrounded by huge Douglas Fir trees. In the middle of the meadow was a wallow. I thought I found an elk oasis. There were lots of sign in the wallow and around it. Being that I was lost when I stumbled across it and it was an hour or so before I got back to civilization I don' t really remember where it was....but I" d be willing to get lost again to find it. I was just curious if Elk will wallow during the second season which is the end of November. If they did I was thinking of getting there before first light and sitting there all day......instead of walking and getting lost. But if I' ll be wasting my time I' d like to have a game plan before November gets here. I really want to get an ATV and I know I won' t be able too unless I bring home the meat......Help.

Don' t waste yer time. By the time you get to hunt, the harems will be broke up, bulls will be tryin' to put weight back on, an' those wallers an' cows won' t even be in their minds. Elks are grazers, so I' d find me the best trail I could on route to a nice meadow an' get to a ambush site by flashlight, hopin' to catch a bull headin' back to his daytime lair.

I forgot to mention that the second elk season in Oregon is for cow only.

Anyone else got any suggestions on getting a cow during November in the mountains?

Find a good food or water source (like a meadow or spring) and set up an ambush spot. Set up on the most well used trail or where multiple trails come together. Get there before day light in the morning and well before dark in the after noon. During the day you can try QUIETLY sneaking around the timber trying to find the cows.
