Default Some Elk Photos from the Missouri River Breaks..

A few photos I took yesterday in the Missouri River Breaks (Central Montana)... This is the CMR Wildlife Refuge... Hunting is allowed throughout the refuge (permit only for elk) except for a small area (about 2 square miles) at Slippery Ann coulee (they have a "No Hunting Zone" there).. I'm always amazed at how animals know where they are safe... These animals are not fenced in....they just know they are not in danger. They congregate here every fall during the breeding season...it's the only time you will see them there...

And last but not least, possibly the best photo I've ever taken!

Nice Bulls and scenery. What kind of birds were you hunting with the dogs?

We were looking for sharptails, but didn't find any....kind of odd as usually there are a lot of birds around... My son got into a group of Sage Grouse, but he was bowhunting....wouldn't have shot them anyway as their numbers have dwindled to very few over the years...

Very nice! A big bull is still on my bucket list, the one I took last year didn't quite cut it
