Things happen. Many people have no idea how dangerous some animals can be in the wild. There are still several hundred people a year in Africa that are killed by elephant, lion, leopard, crocs, buffalo and believe it or not hippo. Hippos are very, very dangerous during periods of low water.

You only need to watch one elephant hunt to see how dangerous it is. I have much respect for any hunter that can stand there taking the shot while the elephant charges him.

I've never shot one, but I've stood my ground on a few of them while lined up for a brain shot if it comes to it. These things always look a lot bigger in the field than they do behind a moat in the zoo. I've got a good friend that takes part in the annual elephant cull in Kruger Natl Park and he always has some really wild stories to tell.
