Default What to take of first bear hunt ?

My teenage son and I are going bear hunting in Canada. This will be a spring hunt. Just looking for suggestions on what to take that I might not be thinking of. Weapons and stuff are taken care of and we are getting our pass ports. I know theremal cells are a must. Any help you be great ?

Lots of Bug dope and a headnet.

Are you going guided, semi-guided, or unguided? As that really dictates what gear is needed.

Where in Canada? Different areas use different methods to hunt so the gear list is going to be different as well. For instance BC doesn't allow bait and all spring hunting is spot and stalk while places like NB do all their hunting over baits from blinds. So, before I can give any advice I need more info.

Since he isn't a Canadian citizen, he is by law required to be guided. So that answers that question.

1. I might not use dope on the stand. But the net and other protective gear is a must. Black flies are not bothered by Thermacells.

2. If you believe in scent-lok type stuff then bring that as well.

Good luck, and post some pics!

The net is a must. The black flies will eat you alive. Deet helps, but the buggers will still find a place on you that tastes good.
